Stirling Eating Disorders Scales (SEDS): An 80-item instrument devised to evaluate eating disorder behavior and cognitions. It it utilized for both anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa and was developed to assess four core cognitive-emotional factors: External control, Low assertiveness, Low self-esteem and Self directed hostility. There are additional scales that also measure anorexic and bulimic dietary cognitions and behaviors. It is appropriate for both adults and adolescents and takes an average of 30 minutes to complete.
