Acting Out: (Verbally-Physically-Behaviorally)

Acting Out: (Verbally-Physically-Behaviorally):   Describes impulsive and anti-social behaviors intended to relieve anxiety or garner attention. A prominent feature of eating disorders, such behavior is often unconscious or semi-conscious in nature, destructive to self or others, and inhibits development of more constructive ways of outwardly expressing inner feelings and needs. Recent studies indicate there may be a neurobiological basis for this behavior, notably dysregulation of serotonin function, in patients with eating disorders.
