Fear of fatness: In anorexia nervosa, an intense fear of gaining weight or becoming fat is maintained by body image distortions telling the patient that his/her body is larger than it is. Other symptoms include preoccupation with thoughts about weight, shape, appearance or food, eating and/or calorie counting.
