Bradycardia

Bradycardia refers to slow heart rate, typically fewer than 50- 60 beats per minute. Bradycardia is a common but serious complication in patients with eating disorders. There are multiple causes: dehydration and electrolyte disturbances secondary to purging (self-induced vomiting, use of laxatives and/or diuretics) or restriction of fluid intake, water loading, or from malnutrition.  See Medical testing protocols used to diagnose bradycardia are reviewed here.
