Cramps, tetany

Cramps, tetany: Cramps and tetany are muscle spasms that can develop secondary to purging as well as insufficient nutrition, caloric intake and mineral and vitamin deficiency. Calcium, magnesium, and potassium deficiency and a raised blood pH (alkalosis) can all contribute to the development of cramps or tetany. Tetany is a term commonly used when there are prolonged spasms of the hands and feet muscles. Associated symptoms include: nervousness, numbness and tingling in the arms and legs. Severe episodes of tetany can result in breathing difficulties, heart complications and seizures.
