Pancreatitis is an inflammatory condition in which the digestive enzymes attack the pancreas. It is caused by repeated stomach trauma, alcohol consumption or the excessive use of laxatives or diet pills. It can develop as a result of refeeding or binge eating. Pancreatitis can be acute or chronic. Either form is serious and can lead to complications.
