Meal Plan

A Meal Plan is a regulated amount of food (broken down into an pre-established variety & quantity to be consumed at set times) prescribed by a registered dietitian/nutritionist as part of recovery. The purpose of the meal plan is to provide security and safety, to promote family investment in daily action towards recovery goals, to minimize anxiety and lengthy decision making about food, to provide variety, balance, adequacy and consistency of intake and to decrease obsessional thinking about calories, fats and carbs. Dietitians recommend using a meal plan for the treatment of anorexia nervosa, sometimes for bulimia nervosa and seldom for Binge Eating Disorder.
